Defamation trial told sex with boys claims untrue. It was only a few years later during another inquiry when a report was prepared and issued that said the claims were untrue.
It read, 'The allegations were categorically false and did not occur and were not made to Ms Steedman. Her alleged involvement in sexual activity with an underage boy was not relevant to the sexual activity with Mr Evans'.
The report further said 'Ms Steedman never gave sexual instructions or permission on this occasion and neither did Mr Evans'.
In December 2000, the same inquiry said that the case against Mr Evans would never be made.
The report was issued just days after Mr Evans turned himself in to police after a series of allegations against him.
The trial heard that Miss Steedman's lawyers said their client had been told to give evidence before they withdrew the case.
Mr Evans admitted having sex with a 14-year-old boy under 16 in 1989 after inviting him to a club in North London.
At that point Miss Steedman's lawyers were not allowed to ask any questions.
Their lawyers argued they should not be allowed to answer questions from the defence team.
He said he had made the allegations 'out of an abundance of caution' and as a result of that 'I wanted to ensure that the matter did not come back to haunt me'.
After admitting to having sex with the boy, he said he was 'happy to give any evidence that I thought would help to bring a bit of closure to this case'.
In response to what the police report called Miss Steedman's 'impropriety', Mr Evans claimed his client 'became a victim of an unfortunate incident' and said she told him 'there was some misunderstanding that resulted in him having sex with a boy under 16'.
The trial heard he had a 'particular interest in children and young people' and 'did not believe there was anything inappropriate about the sexual activities'.
The Crown, however, told the court Miss Steedman had been involved with the boy for around 12 years.
In the aftermath of the hearing the family said in a statement: 'Ms Steedman continues to be traumatised and deeply disappointed.
'She is incredibly sad and remorseful about having been involved in this unfortunate scandal.
'As we have been told in court the investigation, especially given the seriousness of the allegations and the length of time these proceedings have been taking place, has been a tragedy.
'We are absolutely grateful to the professionals of the Police Sexual Offenders Unit who have worked tirelessly to ensure that a thorough, fair and professional process has been carried out.
'We thank the Crown for coming to this important stage of this cas
